Shungite | Your Ultimate Guide + Healing Properties

Several years ago, Shungite came out on the new-age stone-lovers scene (around 2013-ish) and made quite a big splash.

I’m not sure why it suddenly became so popular. Still, it’s not usually listed in the older, more popular crystal property books, so people are often left wondering and asking me many questions about it.

Numerous web articles out there make lots of unfounded claims, so I felt the need to get this blog post out there finally.

What is this stone?

Estimated to be about 2 BILLION years old, shungite gets its name from its discovery deposit site near the Shun’ga village in Karelia, Russia, and some say it can be up to 98% pure carbon. That’s quite pure.

Most geologists now agree that the shungite deposit was created by layers upon layers of ancient organic remains, however … Read More

The MacGyver Approach to Crystal Healing

Teenagers sure are funny.

I miss teaching them science in the classroom. It was so amusing to me that they had discovered older 80’s shows on Netflix that my generation used to enjoy; Walker, Texas Ranger, Magnum PI & MacGyver to name a few. And they would often come to me in the very hands-on, unconventional classroom that I ran, wanting to try to “MacGyver” something up.

Of course, I always encouraged it (as long as it didn’t involve blowing something up!) So off they went with duct tape & paper clips seeing what they could cobble together. Hysterical!!

Years later, this “MacGyver” term has seeped its way firmly into our everyday vocab:

From the Urban Dictionary:

MacGyver (verb): v. 1. To use ingenuity to fix or remedy a problem using only the tools available at hand. 2. To jury-rig

Many of you have asked me this question on my Facebook page;

“Why can’t I just teach myself all this crystal healing stuff with books or the info available online?”

So, you want to MacGyver it up?

My answer?

Nothing’s stopping you. You can totally do that! Many have…including me. 🙂

My Crystal Looks Different ~ What Does it Mean when your Crystal Changes Color or Gets Cloudy?

A question I get quite often is one about a crystal changing color, or becoming cloudy, or showing a new inclusion that wasn’t there before.

Hi! I have a clear quartz pendant that I wear often and meditate with. I’ve noticed it’s started growing green chlorite phantoms & has gotten really cloudy in the past 6 months.
Is that normal?

Now, bear in mind that if you’re asking that question, please be certain that you know this crystal really, really well.

Because crystals have many things going on inside of them that we may not always notice right away.

Also, when you take a crystal out into the sunlight on a bright sunny day, you’re going to notice a lot more things than you’re going to notice in any other kind of light!

So make sure you’ve done your homework with this crystal first before deciding for yourself that you’ve noticed a change or something different. Because it may just be something that … Read More

Down & Dirty Debate Over Crystal Healing

You know I love me a good debate on the scientific accuracy or claims of crystal healing. I’ve been known to indulge a time or two.

Here’s one that took place on my Facebook page that I thought you might enjoy reading here on the blog.

scientific proof for crystal healing

Anonymous FB Poster (aka AFB): If you have even one piece of evidence for your scientific claims you will change the world. Please post some links to your academic peer-reviewed studies and trials. Or you could just block anyone who disagrees with you from commenting.

Hibiscus Moon (HM): I only do that if someone spews disrespect or negativity on my page. I simply won’t allow that in my space. Just as Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor has taught us, I ask that people take responsibility for the energy they bring into any space or transaction & if they cannot do that, then yep, they’re banned…without hesitation. I never block anyone for disagreeing with me. You’re still here, right? And are always welcome.

I’m happy to entertain such debates with those that do it in a mature & respectful way. Heck, I … Read More
