Fashion. What color is the new black now?
One day you’re in the next day you’re out. Pffft!
I don’t have time for that shizzle… I just grab the next t-shirt up for rotation in my drawer, match some bottoms to it, pair up some crystal jewelry I’m vibing with for the day & I’m good to go!
BUT today…I’m going to dabble in the fashion world again while I present my annual Color-of-the-Year video, where I match-up a crystal to Pantone’s Color of the Year!
Previous Years
This year Pantone made it more exciting because they chose two colors.
Drum roll please…
The colors of the year for 2016 are Serenity and Rose Quartz!
Rose Quartz + Serenity
The purpose of the color of the year is to “set the tone” for the coming year. Pantone has stated that the color they choose,
“has always been an integral part of how a culture expresses the attitudes and emotions of the times.”
Well…that’s a bit rich for my taste…but I think it’s safe to say it sets the direction & tone for fashion & style for the year…if you’re into that sort of thing.
So of course, yep…this is a whole marketing & branding thing for Pantone, but color is such a big part of the visual properties of crystals that I cannot help but jump onto this bandwagon!
Serenity
Serenity is a beautiful sky blue color that’s a really light blue…almost bordering on lavender.
Now, I actually chose two crystals to embody the energy of the Serenity color.
Blue Lace Agate
Blue Lace Agate is a pale blue gorgeous “lacy” layered-looking type of agate; hence the name.
Agates are generally characterized by the bands that you’ll see in them. It’s actually a banded chalcedony; a quartz mass made up of submicroscopic quartz particles set up in fibrous layers (those are the bands you see) that also may have other inclusions giving it various colors.
Blue Lace Agate Characteristics
- a type of quartz, all agates are a type of quartz
- same Mohs Hardness as quartz; a 7, so it’s relatively hard. You’ll find them in jewelry & anything that can kind of withstand being worn a lot, ya know…that might get banged up or something or worn as a bracelet
- a throat chakra stone
- all about calm, gentle, serene energy, clarity
- Best for calm + clear communication, about finding your voice but in a very calm way
Blue Calcite
Calcites come in every color in the rainbow…pretty much. Plus, calcites as a group in general, are great for balancing hormones. If you want to know more about that, I have blog post that I wrote all about that here.
Blue Calcite Characteristics
- another throat chakra stone
- great for thyroid balancing (whether it’s hypo or hyper thyroid) because an out of whack thyroid has to do with hormone imbalances (please read my cautions & disclaimers here before using crystals on medical issues)
- spiritually calming + soothing as well as emotionally calming + soothing so it’s a great stone to meditate with
- Also enhances psychic ability & assists with astral travel
- 3 on the Mohs Hardness scale, so much softer than the Blue Lace Agate….meaning not a good idea for jewelry
The reason it’s so “soft” in comparison to quartz is b/c calcite is a Calcium Carbonate. Calcium carbonate is what the shells & hard parts of organisms are made of. Yeah…without our precious calcites most of Earth’s organisms would not even exist! That’s the reason why calcites are so abundant on our planet. So in this case, life giving rise to a crystal.
Rose Quartz
Rose Quartz feels like one of those crystals that we all know quite well. It’s 1 of the first ones that many of us purchase or that we’ve worked with or that we learn about. ❤ Am I right about that?
Rose Quartz Characteristics:
- a type of Quartz that almost always shows up in masses. (BUT…sometimes you’ll find rare very expensive pieces that do grow in points and…wow if you have one of those; hold on to that baby because it’s worth quite a bit, they’re very rare. *See photo below.*)
- Can vary in color, intensity and hue; sometimes they can be very deeply pink colored & sometimes they’re very pale so that they’re barely pink… and sometimes they’re right in between.
- Rose quartz is very abundant & come in big huge masses.
- The stone of love; all kinds of love, whether we’re talking about romantic love or love for family members, pets and friends, compassionate love or even self-love; this is the stone that encourages kindness, compassion and love of all sorts.♥
- Works very well with the heart chakra for emotional heart issues, spiritual heart issues as well as physical heart issues.
Rose Quartz is an all time sparkly fav & if you don’t have some in your collection, I highly recommend that you do get some.
I hope you enjoyed this fun match up for Pantone’s color of the Year 2016: Serenity and Rose Quartz.Do you have any of these stones in your crystal collection? OR do you have any other suggestions to match up with “Serenity”? I’d love to hear what you think of my picks in the comments below. 🙂
Crystal Blessings!
Thank you very much. I use Rose Quartz all the time. I will go and get Calcite and use it as well.
Beautiful Video and so are you.
Blessings Vanda
TY so much Vanda♥
I have hundreds of crystals and one of my first was rose quartz, I have rough, tumbled, hearts, wands and a rose quartz bowl and I avoid at all costs? Any suggestions why I do this, I’ve consciously tried to get them a few times but put them back within minutes??? I use a lot of other heart chakra stones all of the time but just avoid rose quartz all of the time.
Nicholas, its probably bringing up something that you need to work on. Try working with it in very short time frames to ease into it. ♥
Thank you so much. I always enjoy all of your blogs & videos. Rose Quartz has been a favorite of mine for ever. Its one of my “go-to” crystals, along with amethyst , for just about any issue. I am also a fan of Blue Lace Agate, very peaceful vibe. I love Calcite in any color, but the Blue has a unique looking formation that I like. I was also amazed to discover that Tums & other antacids are made from Calcium Carbonate…… ground up Calcite!!!!! Wow. Love your course & cant wait to begin ACM classes. Namaste.
Yeah, isn’t that cool, Robyn?! Would love to have you representing us as an ACM. ♥
I love celestite i think its a great crystal that pairs with the color and both gives off the feeling of serenity.
You’re right, Moon. I need to do a vid on celestite soon!
I was just going to suggest celestite as well. Would love a video on this beautiful stone.
Hi Hibiscus Moon
Love the video I have both of these but need to get some blue calcite but that will be easy.
Glad you found your jewellery and crystals in the wooden box.
Happy 2016 I have not been in touch since last year been busy painting and also setting up
a mobile crystal healing service for friends and clients who need healing so busy, busy, busy.
Hope all is well with you and glad the move went ok for you. I will be in touch soon, I hope regarding, reinstating payments for your Crystal course. I have until September this year to complete it but need to catch up on fees in order to proceed. However I am also moving house so may have to wait until I have moved in. Then I can focus and concentrate on catching up with the other crystal hotties, although I am not such a hibiscus hottie more a dormant hottie although a very active crystal hottie in my work and healing. Look forward to catching up with the sparkle team and best wishes to everyone completing the course at the moment. Take care and keep up your amazing work fantastic and thank you 🙂
Much Love, Jo.
thank you, your video was very informative.
My total pleasure, Andy!
I am just beginning to understand the value and power that crystals hold.
I loved your video…very clear pictures, discription and explanation of each…absolutley beautiful!
Now where do i get these crystals?
Hi Hibiscus ~
A little off subject! I thought you looked absolutely amazing in this video, and wondered if you were using a new camera or lens. I especially like the blurred background, while you look really well lit and sharp. Can you share what lens/camera you used to produce this video?
Thanks,
Morgan
Thank you! I’ve been in love with rose quartz for years, and have several pieces both in my home and my massage studio. I’m just starting to work with blue lace agate.
Love the crystals you chose! Blue Lace Agate has been coming up for me a lot lately. In articles, pictures, videos and all sorts of ways. It’s the only one I do not have out of your picks for 2016 so looks like I need to get some! Thank Hibiscus Moon! You’re beautiful. 🙂 <3
I just bought a bunch of peach calcite. What do you know about these. And also the star rose quartz from Madagascar. Would enjoy a blog on pink girasol. Thanks
Hi. Have you any videos on Blue Aragonite? Love your videos. 🙂
Rose quartz is great to have in my house and collection, but wherever I carry it with me I feel very emotional and cry every time I have it on my person. Why is this? What could be a good option to carry instead that might be less overwhelming?
Thanks! I appreciate your time and knowledge!
Hi Hibiscus
I’m new to crystals/stones and have acquired a few pieces because of their beauty. I have seen so many beautiful stones/crystals online but I don’t know what is meant by “working with the stones/crystals”? I want to learn more and I’m beginning to read about the metaphysical aspect of different ones. I will be digging for Aquamarine (my birthstone) and Rose Quartz this June. My excitement is over-whelming and I am so looking forward to bringing forth these beauty’s from the earth
thank you, great video. Thank you for the description: name, hardness, family it belongs to, ect.
I was just at a store , yesterday and purchased few large chunks of Rose Quartz. One of my favourite Crystals.
I didn’t know about the Rose Quartz, forming in points and clusters, beautiful pic. My friend and I browsed and shopped for 4 hours, and spent another 2 enjoying and discussing our purchases. we are definitely crystal crazy, xxx
If possible can you tell me how I would know the Moldavitite I want to start purchase is real ?
Blessings Hibiscus Moon!
Thank you for all your videos & techno geeky info. So fascinating! Going to local gem show & Rose Quartz top of list. Thanks also for BLA & BC info.
Would so love to go to a HM Crystal Convention/Adventure! Would you & team be interested in organizing a yearly event?
Blessings Crystal loves!
I love the blues and my son bought me a blue calcite that looks like a frozen wave. I lost my youngest son Jonathan a few months ago and we are having a horrible time grieving. Can you give me names gems to use in a grid to help with this?
I am 67 years young and my son Jonathan was only 30 he was too loving for the hardness of this planet and I pray he is now happy.
I love the synchronicity that happens when I work with or use crystals! Yesterday I made my first grid. I used blue lace agate, blue calcite and rose quartz predominantly but also included pink halite, celestite and peacock ore or chalcopyrite. I just did it intuitively and did not set out to create a grid but it just kind of came together. Then today I read your blog on this! Love it! Thank you so much for the attention and information you bring to the world on crystals. Sending much love to you.
Alba, the apache tear is known as “the grief stone” other ideas for you are rose quartz for love, garnet for strength, ocean jasper for joyful times you shared, peridot for lightness. Hope that helped a little it definitely helped me.
3 perfect choices. I am particularly fond of the blue lace agate and rose quartz as they comprise 1/2 of our peaceful nights arsenal on our headboard along with howlite and amethyst. We keep an assortment of frequently cleansed and energized tumbles in a marble “serenity” bowl in our headboard. With the right intentions set my girlfriend and I have been gifted some wonderfully blissful slumber and vivid peaceful dreams. So glad I found your site and joined in the fun. Thanks for all you do and the wonderful energy you bring with you everywhere.
PS. Moving to Arkansas in a couple months about an hours drive from Hot springs. We both can’t wait to find our own PERSONAL crystals to bring into our home. Be well always.
John
I like Angelite for Serenity. It’s soft but still can find it in beads for jewelry. One thing for sure, there isn’t a substitute for Rose Quartz. I get frustrated at the bead industry for using dark pink thread to string it on for retail. Some really is white even when placed on white. So the mineral maybe Rose Quartz but the color sure isn’t. I did mention it to a few venders at the last gemstone show I went to. Thanks HM!!!
TY, I love hearing everything about stones and crystals, funny rose quartz was the first I got, still have them by my bed, and meditate with one in each hand, they each fit perfect in each hand, I can not change hands with them, lol. keep up the good work, love everything you do. Pam
Love rose quartz but I’ve read that rose & pink quartz are different also how do you tell the difference between rose quartz & pink calcite??
