Because I get asked about this a lot…
I’d like to share three methods for releasing the confusion + allowing you to confidently choose the crystal you should work with (the one you’ll get the most impact from at the moment.)
Method 1: Go into your heart.
I’ve been giving this advice for a long time so please forgive if you feel I’m like a broken record, but it’s true and it works — here we go:
What crystal are you most attracted to at the moment?
What are your intentions?
What’s your goal?
There is no wrong crystal (Except… read more on that below).
Go with your heart and intuition. The crystal that you’re first attracted to, the one that you say you just love; there’s probably a really good reason for that. Go with it. Go with your heart. Let your heart pick the crystal, not a book.
I mean, books certainly come in handy. But I like to empower my students to trust their intuition, to go with their heart, and go with an unbiased mind if at all possible.
Because there’s a lot of contradiction out there from book to book, if you haven’t noticed already. Some people get quite frustrated by that — understandably so. It’s not 100% across the board for everyone.
Sometimes a book will recommend something, and it’ll work for most, but it may not work for everyone. When someone chooses something from their heart, it always seems to work so much better than going from the brain. ♥
Method 2: Tune into the energy of your crystal
I also feel that it’s important to tune into the energy of your crystal — just as you would turn the dial (back in them thar olden days…) to tune into a specific frequency to receive the desired radio station.
Once you’re dialed in —
you can set your intention + align it with your crystal.
So, it’s more about “programming yourself” than it is about the crystal. Get what I mean?
The difference here may seem subtle to you, but in my mind, it’s quite different.
In tuning in first, we’re getting into harmony with the energy of the crystal, and then by clarifying our intentions we’re making the sometimes-muddy work of communicating with Source Energy way clearer. In addition, by doing this you’re laser-focusing your energy to your purpose + objective!
First, do your research + choose a crystal that resonates with your desired intention (so the crystal already has its own “baked-in program” + you’re just looking for a match to what you want to achieve.) If you want my super-easy + practical step-by-step on how I recommend doing this I detail that for you here.
Method 3: Use a pendulum to choose your crystal!
Not sure how to go about that? I’ve got a great blog post for you here all about it.
Then be open to testing it out. It may take a few tries to find the best one that works best with you.
And I’m always harping on about this… you don’t need to have a huge collection right away!
Really get to know your crystals slowly and individually. Bond with it.
Spend some time with each of your crystals rather than going nuts and collecting a whole bunch right away, blowing all your money, and not really working with any of them. I see many going that route and not really getting much from their crystals.
Can you Choose a Wrong Crystal?
Well, sort of.
It really depends on what you’re trying to achieve. Say for example you want to work on energizing motivation but you choose a calming lepidolite to work on that; I can safely say you’re results will most likely be lack-luster.
You may also choose a conflicting crystal combo. That will also result in probable dissappointment: I wrote all about that in my classic blog post here: Should Some Crystals NEVER be Together?
I hope you found this info useful.
Now, I’d love to hear from you below: please tell me in the comments what you thought of these steps on how to choose your crystal, if you have something to add, or what your favorite crystal to work with is right now.
Crystal Blessings,
My favorite crystals to work with right now are congo and Zambian citrine, and aquamarine from Namibia. My eye catches those instantly and I know its for a good reason!
My all time favorites I am aþracted to are clear or rose quartz.
Rita, those are some all-around good fav’s. ♥
Ooo, some nice confidence-boosters there, Robert. Good choices. And the aqua is so peaceful. 🙂
Hi..love the steps you laid out…I recently started working with lepidolite with great results combined with rose quartz ..flourit..and amethyst
Black Tourmaline is my favorite.
Keep those boundaries strong, Sandy!
I am always attracted to Amethyst, this crystal makes me feel protected, deflecting any negative energies
My other favourite is Turquoise, I love the colours and that it has been used for many centuries as a protection amulet, it may also be because I’m a Pisces ????????
My favorite crystal is a toss up between my rose quartz or my large amethyst point. Loved your video. Thanks!
TY Kay. And those are 2 of my top picks too. 😀
So many to choose from…but three of my favorites are Amethyst, Black Tourmaline and Selenite.
Jamie, some solid choices!!
I let the crystals choose me ????
The ones that want to come home with me always turn out to be exactly what I need
Love that you use + trust your intuition, Annie. ♥
I like your steps in choosing a crystal, in a very simple concise/purposeful manner that is what you do. I think sometimes we overthink, overread what to do and how to do it. Thank you. I have been drawn towards pink dumortierite lately. 🙂
Hi Betula, thank you. I can’t help but find the most practical way. Glad you found it useful. Now, that’s a unique choice. Enjoy!
I am loving shungite and black tourmaline . They are my go to
A Picasso stone boosted me out of a real pinch yesterday!
I have recently purchased a piece of moldavite and I am Loving It! Still learning how to connect and see/reap the benefits!
I’m a newbie with crystals. I’m a somewhat newly awakened empath and highly sensitive and intuitive person. I have known all my life that I am these ways, but I didn’t know there were names for who I am as a deep feeler and thinker. I’m trying to find different tricks, tools, and work with a coach or mentor on a one-on-one basis to help me with all the challenges I’m facing as a HSP, empathic, intuitive person. I have worked with a pingulim and crystals a little bit, but with being mostly blind, when I ask the pendulum questions , and it sways or turns different ways when it answers, I am not able to figure out what the answer will be to my questions. So that will make it difficult for me to use that tool with crystals. Even though, I’m mostly blind, I have always loved semi precious stones and crystals. I did research online to see if there were crystals to help with being more grounded and help with my frustrations of being such a highly sensitive, empathic, intuitive person. I did find a list of crystals that help people who are like me. I was hoping to find a bracelet that had one of every stone, and there are five or six of them. The metaphysical shop I went to had a bracelet with almost all the crystals I needed, except for one. They did have individual bracelets of each stone Needed; and I purchased them. Did I make a mistake in doing so? Ever since I purchased them, a little over a week ago, I haven’t felt any change or different. Am I suppose to do something to activate them? I have read that you need to either sit your crystal or crystals out in the sunlight for a day, do the same with the light from the moon, bury them in the earth, or use selenite. I think I spelled that right. Yay! To charge or activate your crystals. If I’m all wrong about this; please let me know. I want crystals and crystal healing to work for me, because like I said up above, I have always been drawn to them. I had a lot more useable vision until I was a teenager. Now I’m only able to see light. I have always loved amathist and diamonds. My new ones, since educating myself somewhat about crystals are; rose quartz and black tourmaline.
Hi HM,
Thank you for sending this going help more then I can tell you. As always thank you.
Hello! First time post. New to crystals. The crustal I love is Rainbow Flourite. It is the most visually attractive to me. When I first began collecting, a few months ago, I dreamed of black tourmaline. So, I felt compelled to get a small chunk of that. I DO watch a couple of online sales. And I DO get carried away.
Hi..love the steps you laid out…I recently started working with lepidolite with great results combined with rose quartz ..flourit..and amethyst
When picking a crystal in a store I always 2nd guess myself. What if there is a better crystal at the bottom on the bin? Etc. I will remember this! Now I just have to remember – where is that darn pendulum. ????
I just started collecting and I am an empath. I went to store with the intention of purchasing black obsidian and i knew a little bit about colors and chakras but i ended up with Rose Quartz, Clear Quartz, Amethyst, Blue Agate, Orange Calcite, Red Jasper, something light green I am still not sure of, tiger eye, and a moonstone. After having a bat inside my home i decided to separate my stones lol… seems unrelated but the thought occured to me, so I did. I purchased a satin spar slab and really only use the black obsidian, rose quartz, and amethyst at the moment. I’m satisfied with my small collection. Looking forward to learning how to work with them. 🙂 I’m looking for peace, love, healing emotional pains, and protection from absorbing negativity or anxiety from others.
????Thank you Mrs. Moon ????Lobe your attitude ????☀️My favorite crystals are Angel Auroras, Clear Crystals, and Amythest ????✌️????
If opalite speaks to me strongly, can I still use it even though it’s technically just pretty glass? I purchase a really beautiful little opalite carving of an angel a while ago in Ireland, and I always thought it was opal, but since I’ve gotten into crystals and lunar phases, I realized true opal looks different from my little figurine, which I’ve determined to be opalite. Can I still use it in meditation and lunar rituals even though it’s man-made?
Go with your heart ❤️ is the best advice ever!
Local Rock Shop that I go to the owner always giggles, because he says the “rocks talk to me.”
When I am looking at specimens I don’t necessarily buy the biggest or the best. I buy what resonates within my soul. The rock that talks to me.
Rocks that talk have even “yelled at me to be found” in daily activities, LOL
Dear HM
You are a wonderful person with all that you do for so many of Us I have love the classes I have taken. Thank you so much.
Thank you I do appreciate this I formation I have a collection of crystal s that I like any other suggestions of which kind of crystal s I should know About
I have been collecting white quartz for a very long time from all over.
I’m in Arizona for my sabbatical now & enjoying the time to clear my mind & look for quartz.
Hi! I’m new to all of this haha. I’m 16 and don’t know much about crystals or anything. I understand that garnet isn’t really a crystal, but when I place a garnet stone in my hand I feel a connection and if I hover my other hand over the top, I can feel the stone vibrate. I think it’s really cool but I wanted to know if that ok? Like does it work? I saw a video where someone was able to move a crystal in their hand without intentionally doing it and I’m so close with the garnet. What crystals seem to work best?
I keep on changing my crystals and not just drawn to just one!! I’m really loving just intuitively grabbing a stone to see that it serves my exact purpose. Loving the energies of golden rutile, apatite, Larimar, rhodochrosite lately. Also lepidolite is always with me to calm me down.
So, I have a question! I’ve been following you, Hibiscus Moon, on your awesome crystal journey.
I’m new to this, so I don’t really know much about the crystal kingdom yet! But I’ve been warned that having crystals around can be dangerous and can have bad side effects, since it absorbs energy, and the reason I’m buying the crystal is to remove negative energy, not amplify it.
Should I risk it?
The first time I walked into my nearest rock shop I was not sure why I was there. The owner started asking questions and I realized I had some issues. She said look around and something will call you.. it did a beautiful Citrine piece. I felt so good holding it. Then I put it on my shelf and it sat there for almost a year. Life happens I had health issues, my dad passed, my husband had back surgery. It was during this time that I lost my wedding ring. I was so sad and I had to tell my husband, he was not happy.. I was not happy. This part is kinda crazy or not..but one day I picked up my Citrine and loved it and told it I needed joy and a clear mind. I held it everyday and if I moved from one room to another it went with me. One day I thought about my ring and I jumped up to look in my dresser for the 3rd time and I found it! I was so happy and joyful!!
For the life of me I don’t know how I found you but I did and now I am on a journey to become CCP. Not sure what I want to do once I graduate but at 61 your never to old to learn new things..
