Let’s start this blog off with a question… Do you have too many crystals and feel like you don’t have enough time for them all? Maybe you still haven’t found the time or a good enough reason to learn how to work with your crystals effectively. This seems to be a common problem among a number of our crystal family members!
Maybe you’ve been acquiring more and more crystals as of late thinking a more significant collection is going to make it all fall into place. Then you find yourself suffering from information overload! When we feel things are just too overwhelming to handle, we often succumb to the pressures of everyday life and throw our problems on the back burner.
I feel very strongly that no matter how busy we are, we can make time to learn and create the experiences we need. There’s a reason you’re being called to crystals. All you need to do is put the proper steps in place to overcome crystal overwhelm.
5 Ways to Overcome Crystal Overwhelm
#1 – Chose Your Crystals With Your Intuition
I would like to encourage you to let go of all logical thought when choosing a crystal. I’ve always been an advocate of relying on your intuition over what you might consider “logical” when it comes to selecting crystals. This is also exactly what I teach in my certified crystal healer course. Listen to your gut or your “belly wisdom” as my friend Jacqueline Dubois likes to say.
Relying more on your intuition is going to help free you up from a good portion of that overwhelming feeling right out of the gate. You can forget about studying all those books and trying to learn more and more and more. Just go with your intuition and everything else will come in time, I promise.
#2 – Give up Control
You don’t need to be in control of everything all the time. A lot of progress has already been made for you, through the trials and tribulations of others, so don’t reinvent the wheel! When you start working with Crystals, begin by focusing on the elements that attracted you to them in the first place.
If something resonates with you and it’s fun, then do it! You could also take a trusted course…..insert shameless self-promotion here.
The Hibiscus Moon Certified Crystal Healer Course allows you the opportunity to learn from a mentor or a trusted teacher through the mistakes they’ve already experienced. Now to be fair if my course isn’t the one that resonates with you, find another certified crystal teacher that does. Because at the end of the day, I want you to stop shouldering everything on your own.
#3 – Bookworms Aren’t All That
Do you feel like you need to gather up all the books ever written so you can memorize every crystal meaning? We often seem to admire those who have crystal book knowledge completely memorized. You could very well be falling into a trap if you think that someday you’ll be able to remember what each and every crystal is used for.
Do you have any idea how many minerals there are? There are 4,500 and counting, and they’re discovering new ones all the time! It’s almost impossible to keep up with them. Once you come to terms with that, you’ll feel some of that overwhelm start to dissipate.
#4 – Overcoming The Fear of Failing at Crystal Healing (Part A)
Another thing to consider is your fear of failing as a crystal healer. Now I really hesitate to call the work we do with crystals “crystal healing”. However, I continue to use that word because so many people don’t quite understand what you’re talking about if you refer to it as anything else. So if you think you’re going to fails at crystal healing, therapy, energy work, light work, whatever you prefer to call it. Then you’re already approaching the whole subject wrong. I promise you that you cannot fail if you approach this with the right mindset.
First of all, bear in mind that when you’re working with crystals, the healing and the work taking place is a two-way street. You’re simply acting as a facilitator, or a conduit for the work to take place, you’re not the almighty healer. When people realize that it usually dissolves that fear. It’s pretty amazing how changing your mindset can releases you and free you to do the work in a successful way.
Overcoming The Fear of Failing at Crystal Healing (Part B)
Part B of overcoming the fear of failure deals entirely with confidence. Now, In today’s day and age understanding the science behind how crystals work should give you an incredible amount of confidence. Having that solid foundation of science in your back pocket totally eliminates any fear around working with crystals.
#5 – Let go of Some Things
Is what you’re spending at your local metaphysical shop or online rock shop higher than what you spend on food? It might be imperative that you downsize your collection. The quickest way to cure crystal overwhelm is to stop trying to collect every single crystal out there!
So simplify your crystal collection. I’ve done it several times, I’ve purged my collection down to a bare minimum set until I get over those overwhelming feelings. If you need help with this one, I would encourage you to check out my two-part blog series on the topic.

This is my exact issue right now! I don’t by any means have a super large collection of crystals and stones but I never know what to do with the ones I have.
I started by incorporating them into a sort of Feng Shui practice by placing certain stones in certain rooms. I had been keeping them all in my bedroom (oops) and have noticed a significant difference in my sleep after moving some stones out of there – especially my malachite.
Right now I’m trying to figure out how to carry my stones on days I don’t have my purse or pockets. Any ideas?
Excellent site by the way! 🙂
Good idea to disperse throughout your home. 😉
How about having some that you can wear on a pendant?
No shame, I CONSTANTLY have them in my bra, tucked in! “Closest to my heart chakra.”
???????? I worry they will fall out of my pocket.
Getting back to why I picked up crystals in the first place…I’m sorting, cataloging & packing crystals in preparation for moving in a few months. As I’m going through dozens that I haven’t touched in years, or I use just occasionally, I’m drawn to work with some of them again. I also rediscovered my very first crystal book and flipped through it. I got excited about things I’d forgotten about. I’m now thinking I could pack all but the original 5 “master-healers” I started with and focus on them for the duration. After the move, I’ll be at my leisure to play with them all. Thanks for the tips!
My best friend carries a pouch at all times containing a variety of crystals. She’s constantly meeting new people and making friends with the barista, lawn care guy, man sitting on a park bench, you name it. Every time she meets someone she asks them to look thru the pouch and pick a crystal or two that speaks to them. Rarely do they turn her down, so she’s constantly keeping her crystal collection limited and only keeps a handful of special crystals for herself (not in the pouch). It’s a great way to get out of your comfort zone, meet new people, and limit crystal overload!
Jude what a great idea your best friend has! How awesome!!! Chelsy, I put my crystals of the day in a little soft pouch or an organza pouch and safety-pin the pouch to my sports bra! I can’t wear much jewelry at work, so this works for me! With the organza, you still feel the crystal/gem against your skin!
I just recently got my collection up to 47 crystals. I only work with the smaller tumbled ones because i carry them on me, usually in my bra. I also like rubbing the smooth stones in between my fingers putting my energy into the crystal. The first day I was slightly overwhelmed trying to remember which stone was what so i studied and did research all day till I got it memorized. the meanings I’m still working on but I’m a fast learner. The only thing I’m worried about is are there certain stones that shouldn’t be used together. I love using 2-3 stones at a time. My favorite combo so far is Rhodonite and Hematite, they work really well for me. Are there certain crystals that shouldn’t be used together?
